As of last week, over 1,000 cards have been completed, over 2,100 miles have been traveled, and 26 kids have became McBain Mileage Club Marathoners...which means they traveled a marathon distance of 26.2 miles! Kids will be receiving their t-shirts for this accomplish in a week or two. THANK YOU MILEAGE CLUB VOLUNTEERS!
Friday, June 1st, is our 2nd Annual Fun To Be Fit event. Your child's teacher has been sending reminders about this as well. I hope to see you there!
Tuesday, June 5th, is the track and field day for Kindergarteners - 1st graders.
Friday, June 8th, is the track and field day for 2nd - 4th graders.
*If it rains on either of these days, it will be cancelled.
Please contact me if you have any questions about any of the above events.

Wowzer!
Happy first day of May! I can't get over how fast this year is going by. One month from today will be our 2nd Annual Fun to be Fit Day. Please be looking for information coming home soon about this event. We have a daily countdown going, so the kids are looking forward to it as well.
The Mileage Club is going wonderfully. Thank you parents who are volunteering for this!
I'm currently doing fitness testing with 2nd - 4th graders. They are trying to improve their fall score on sit ups, flexibility, pull ups, and the mile run. They're doing very well so far.
Younger grades have been working on eye-hand coordination with balloons, paddles, and balls. They've also been hitting off of batting tees, running bases, and learning basics of softball.
Will you be joining us on June 1st? Hope so! The more the merrier! Have a great week!

Toe Tokens!
Well...our Mileage Club began this week, and along with it...lots of excitement! One hundred and eighty four cards were completed this week, which means I gave out 184 toe tokens! I just love seeing the kids wearing these on their necklaces and shoelaces. Every token means they have traveled two miles, and have gone 22 times around our Mileage Club track. So 184 cards equals 368 miles...plus our miles from last fall...brings us to a total of 1,542 miles have been traveled so far. That's 16,962 around the mileage club track. Wow!
We could still use some help, especially on Monday's and Wednesday's. Please contact me if you are interested in helping. It's only for 5 more weeks.
Thank you!

Help!!
I hope you all had an enjoyable spring break. I feel rested and rejuvenated, and ready for the next couple of months!
The Mileage Club begins next week and I need help. If you can help, please contact me at 825-8021, or ckelly@mcbain.org You would be needed for one day a week for 6 weeks. The time would be from 1:40-2:10, and then again from 2:25 - 2:55. The kids are very excited about this program, and it's very rewarding to volunteer at because of their excitement.
Thank You!

Get Ready...Get Set...Go!!
Before we know it, it's going to be the end of the school year, and we'll have our 2nd Annual Fun to be Fit Event. Last year we had many community members join us, and we're hoping for that again this year as well. Our event will be a 3K, instead of a 5K, which is a distance of 1.8 miles. If you haven't started training, you still have time. This event is a wonderful celebration of the importance of exercise, along with how fun exercise can be.
Forms for t-shirts and medals have been sent home a couple of times. We are going to be ordering shirts on Monday, April 9th. If you still want to place an order, the office has extra forms. We would like all students to each get a "finisher's medal". If you're not ordering a t-shirt, but would like your child to get a medal, we would appreciate a $1.00 donation for each student you have to help cover the cost of the medals. Thank you!
Many kids have been asking about the Mileage Club. I kind of chuckle and tell them that normally in March...WE HAVE SNOW! The Mileage Club will begin on Monday, April 16th. If you can help out with this program, please e-mail or call me: ckelly@mcbain.org 825-2021. You would only have to help out one day a week for 6 weeks...from 1:40 until the end of the day.
TENNIS SHOES...are required for p.e. class. With the warm weather we've been having, many kids wear flip flops to school and forget their tennis shoes. Please help them remember to pack their shoes on p.e. days.
I'll leave you with this..."Happiness is like jam. You can't spread even a little without getting some on yourself."

And the Winners Are....
Our Sport Stacking Tournament on Saturday, March 10th, was very fun! Thanks to all parents who attended and supported their child as they stacked against some very tough competition. All the kids there did an excellent job! After going over the results, I'm happy to report that a few school records were broken this year.
Nathan Koetje set THREE new school records for the 6 and Under category. He set a 3-3-3 record of 4.81 seconds...Devin Morris had the record since 2008 which was 5.19.
He set a 3-6-3 record of 6.25...replacing a record set by Mya Eisenga in 2010, which was 7.11.
He set a Cycle record of 20.41...replacing Jackson Lutke in 2010, which was 21.59.
Ella Schroder set a new 3-6-3 record of 5.63 in the 7 year old division...replacing the record set by Klaire Pollington in 2010, which was 5.68.
Maddux Hoaglund set a 3-3-3 record of 2.90 in the 11 year old division...replacing Kennedy Pollington's record from 2011 of 2.94.
Kennedy Pollington set two records in the 12 year old division. She got a 2.97 in the 3-3-3, which replaces Gabby Hoaglund's record of 3:19 from 2011. She got a 3.68 in the 3-6-3, which replaces Maggie Eisenga's record of 3.83 set in 2011.
This really shows how hundreths of seconds can make a big difference!
FUN TO BE FIT - Forms will be sent home this week for kids that have not turned in their form yet. IF YOU ARE OPTING OUT OF A T-SHIRT, PLEASE SEND IN $1.00 SO THAT WE CAN ORDER FINISHER'S MEDALS FOR ALL THE STUDENTS. The forms are due Monday, March 19th. Thank you! As a reminder, the Fun to be Fit Run will be on Friday, June 1st.
Three more weeks until spring break, and then the Mileage Club will start up once we get back. I'll be asking for volunteers to help out with this once again.
As always, thanks for your support of physical education! Have a great week!

Reminders....
Our Stack Attack Sport Stacking Tournament is Saturday, March 10th. Registration forms can be found in the office, or from myself. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. It's a good idea to get here early and pick up your child's "timing sheet",...that way they can practice out in the hallway and get their nervousness out! The tournament is held in the high school gymnasium. Please call or e-mail me if you have any questions about this. My e-mail is: ckelly@mcbain.org and the number at school is 825-2021.
Fun to be Fit T-shirt and medal forms are due Monday, March 5th. Please get those turned in as soon as possible.
It seems like winter is finally here! Now that it's March though...it can just go away:) In another month I'll be contacting parents about the Mileage Club that starts up again in the spring. This year is certainly going by fast.
Please help your child remember tennis shoes on their p.e. days. Thanks for your support of McBain Physical Education!
